Thank you to those that wished to come out and for your understanding at this time.
Film Allman, LLC and Unclaimed Freight Productions are getting ready to begin shooting a biopic feature film about the life of Gregg Allman called
Midnight Rider. The production has scheduled an open casting call seeking extras, and featured background actors. Experienced film crew members can submit resumes via email. Filming is set to begin on February 24th and run through March 27th in the Savannah, GA area.
Midnight Rider is a biopic on Gregg Allman, who was part of the Southern rock group the Allman Brothers, whose heyday was in the '60s and '70s with such songs as Ramblin' Man, Midnight Rider, Whipping Post and Jessica. Despite the success, Gregg Allman found himself beset by tragedy: His brother Duane Allman died in a motorcycle crash only two weeks after the band’s third album went gold. Less than 13 months later, bassist Berry Oakley was killed in another motorcycle accident. The hand of death followed him to his relationships: two girlfriends committed suicide after Allman broke up with them. Allman also married six times (once to Cher) and spent years in and out of rehab.
Starring in
Midnight Rider: The Gregg Allman Story is Academy Award winner William Hurt playing the role of present-day Gregg Allman. Hurt recently wrapped shooting on the feature films
Days and Nights starring opposite Allison Janney and Katie Holmes, and
Winter's Tale starring alongside Russell Crowe, Will Smith, Jessica Brown Findlay, and Jennifer Connelly. Also starring in
Midnight Rider is singer-songwriter Tyson Ritter playing the younger version of Gregg Allman.
Vampire Academy star Zoey Deutch will play a groupie named Mae, and rising star Wyatt Russell will play Duane Allman.
Directors Guild of America DGA Award winner Randall Miller will direct from a screenplay that he wrote with three-time Daytime Emmy Award nominee Jody Savin. The screenplay is based on Gregg Allman's autobiography "My Cross to Bear", which made the New York Times Bestseller list and Rolling Stone Magazine's 25 Greatest Rock Memoirs of All Time list. William Hurt actually helped director Randall Miller's career in the beginning. Hurt made an anonymous financial donation to Miller's American Film Institute thesis film. And when Hurt's identity was revealed, he even agreed to do the voice-over on Miller's film. This is the first collaboration since for Hurt and Miller.
Randy Miller and Jody Savin will also produce under the banner of their production company Unclaimed Freight. Co-producing is Brad Rosenberger and Andre Danylevich. Greg Allman and his manager Michael Lehman are working closely with the production and will both serve as executive producers. Also executive producing is the same team behind the feature films
CBGB and
Savannah - Nick Gant, Don Mandrik, Jay Sedrish. Jim Tharpe rounds out the exec producers. Open Road Films will handle domestic distribution, while The Exchange will handling international sales.
