"The Hobbit: There and Back Again" will shoot through June, 2012.
AB Media Publishing, LLC

New Line Cinema, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, and WingNut Films are currently in production on J.R.R. Tolkien’s "The Hobbit: There and Back Again". Shooting has wrapped on "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey", and the extras casting directors are hiring new general background actors throughout filming on "The Hobbit: There and Back Again", which will continue into June, 2012. Those interested must be located in the Wellington area and must be available to work with 12-hours notice.

Peter Jackson directed all three "Lord of the Rings" films, which earned a total of 30 Academy Award nominations and 17 Academy Award wins. Jackson is shooting "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" in Digital 3-D, using the latest camera shooting and audio recording technology. The budget for the two Hobbit films is estimated to be between $300 – $500 million. Although principal photography will wrap in June 2012, Peter Jackson has confirmed that some scenes for "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" may be shot sometime during 2013. Filming is taking place at Stone Street Studios sound stages and other locations in and around Wellington, New Zealand.

The production companies for "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" are New Line Cinema and MGM, with New Line handling production management. Warner Bros. Pictures has acquired worldwide theatrical distribution rights, with select international territories. MGM will handle all international television licensing. Carolynne Cunningham of Peter Jackson's WingNut Films is producing, along with three time Academy Award winner (and Peter Jackson's wife) Fran Walsh.

The Hobbit, or There and Back Again, better known by its abbreviated title The Hobbit, was first published by independent Australian publishing company Allen & Unwin in 1937. It has been a perennial bestseller since starting life with a very modest 1,500-copy print run. Since then, it has gone on to sell many millions of copies in more than 50 languages, and 2012 is the 75th anniversary year of its publication.

• "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" is currently slated to hit theaters 14 December 2012.

• "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" is currently slated to hit theaters 13 December 2013.

Story:

The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug (Benedict Cumberbatch). Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen), Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage). Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers. Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever... Gollum (Andy Serkis). Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities... a simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.
