Open casting call scheduled for new FX series 'Hoke'

I am assisting the casting director with getting word out about an open casting call for the new FX Productions and Deuce Three Productions television series Hoke starring Academy Award nominee Paul Giamatti.

The series takes place in late 1970s Miami, and all types are needed. Stand-ins for Giamatti and Screen Actors Guild Award nominated actress and former Game of Thrones star Oona Chaplin are also being cast. Shooting will commence in February.

Hoke centers on veteran police officer Hoke Moseley (Giamatti) in 1978 Miami, and he's a mess. He's lost a lot of things in his life: his hair, his teeth, his wife, his partner, his belief in humanity. In exchange for all that, he's got a drinking habit, a smoker's rasp, and a cruddy hotel room - which he's about to lose. He's managed to hang onto his job and his life, but Hoke is a crap magnet - every crappy, rotten crime in the Miami-Dade area lands on Hoke's ashstrewn desk, and he feels like he spends his life in a gator-filled sewer from which there is no exit.

Also starring in Hoke is Oona Chaplin playing Ellita Sanchez, a sharp young homicide detective recently promoted from dispatcher to Hoke's new partner. John Carroll Lynch portrays Bill Henderson, an old-school Miami Detective and Hoke's former partner who is equally as miserable in the recently diversified department. Robert Wisdom plays Major Brownley, the head of the Miami PD Homicide Squad, who has a long history with Hoke and his antics. Jordi Molla has been cast as Armando Zuniga, a sociopath Cuban who arrives on the shores of Miami in the rumpled, faded clothing of a peasant Cuban refugee and integrates into the city posing as a famous poet of the Cuban people. Golden Globe Award nominee Tammy Blanchard rounds out the series regular cast as Loretta Hickey, the striking mother of a murdered drug addict who Hoke comes across while investigating the case.

Paul Giamatti will executive produce with Daniel Carey under the banner of their production company Touchy Feely Films, which signed a two-year, first-look deal with FX Productions in 2013. In addition to writing the series and directing the pilot episode, Academy Award nominee Scott Frank will also executive produce. Academy Award winner Curtis Hanson will exec produce along with his Deuce Three Productions partner and Primetime Emmy Award nominee Carol Fenelon.
