Casting teens and adults for Paramount Pictures film 'Pale Blue Dot' starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Garner

How to find casting calls for Pale Blue Dot

"Pale Blue Dot" stars Adam Sandler, Jennifer Garner, and Rosemarie DeWitt.
AB Media Publishing, LLC

Right of Way Films has begun production on the Paramount Pictures comedy feature film "Pale Blue Dot" based on the novel "Men, Women & Children: A Novel" by Chad Kultgen. The films casting directors have sent out a casting call seeking teens to play football players and cheerleaders, as well as adults to play teachers, coaches, and referees among many other roles. The roles are fully paid and there is no previous experience working as and extra or actor required. Filming will take place in Austin, TX and will continue through February, 2014.

"Pale Blue Dot" focuses on the Truby family, who have high school students, and deals with the navigation of sexual awakenings in a digital age where the Internet has made pornography, blogs and social networking just a few clicks away. Starring is Golden Globe Award nominee Adam Sandler playing the role of Don Truby, and Golden Globe Award winner Jennifer Garner as Rachel Truby. Two-time Independent Spirit Awards nominee Rosemarie DeWitt has also joined the cast playing the role of Patricia Beltmeyer.

Four-time Academy Award nominee Jason Reitman is directing "Pale Blue Dot" from an adapted screenplay that he wrote with Independent Spirit Awards winner Erin Cressida Wilson. Reitman has directed such hit films as "Juno," "Up in the Air," and "Labor Day". Reitman will also produce with Helen Estabrook under the banner of their production company Right of Way Films. Estabrook started with Reitman as an assistant and has grown to become his creative partner. They opened the company in 2009, and signed a development partnership with Indian Paintbrush, the financing and production company headed by billionaire Steven Rales.

Film and Television Extras Guidelines

Movie Extras Casting Calls

Guidelines for working as an extra in films and television series:

* When you are booked for extra work, it is almost always the day or evening before the day that you are required to work. Therefore, if you are submitting for extra work, make sure that you are located within a reasonable commuting distance of where shooting is taking place. ALWAYS let the casting director know your exact location when submitting for extra work.

* When accepting work, make absolutely certain that you are available the entire day or night with NO conflicts. Typical shooting days/nights run 12-13 hours and more.

* Buy a Thomas Brothers Map Book. The Film and Television Extras casting people will give you these map coordinates when giving you your call time and location. They may also email you the Google Maps or MapQuest directions links.

* Bring a small folding chair, something to read, sunscreen, a couple of light snacks, a notepad, and two pens.

* Follow the wardrobe instructions and requirements, as you will be checked by the wardrobe department when you arrive on the set. Bring an extra jacket (even if it’s summertime). It's always cold on a sound stage, where you might be working. Ladies, take a pair of flats to wear when not on the set (your feet will thank you).

* ALWAYS show up at least 1/2 hour early. NEVER be late. Allow plenty of time for traffic, etc.

* When arriving at the location, immediately check in with the AD (assistant director), or whoever you were told to check in with. Fill in your name and address on the Film and Television Extras payment voucher. Make sure to fill in the hours worked and have the AD sign it at the end of the day.

* Never bring cameras or pets unless asked to do so. Also do not bring friends.

* NEVER take photos on the set with your cell phone. If caught, you will be fired and will most likely never work for that Film and Television Extras casting director again.

* NEVER ask for autographs or bother the actors. This is a professional work environment and not an appearance.

* Do not sit in any of the "director chairs". They are for actors, the director and designated crew only.

* Network with other background actors. If you obtain one good tip or referral, it could lead to a lot more background acting jobs. More work gives you more opportunities to get the necessary vouchers (three) to qualify to join SAG (Screen Actors Guild). Being a member of SAG gives you benefits you would not have as a non-union extra, e.g. double your pay and medical, dental and vision benefits.

* Always remain alert and ready to go to the set when asked. Do not leave the set unless you are given specific permission from the AD. Do not listen to headphones, as you will not be able to hear the AD when calling you to the set.

* Again, ALWAYS be prepared to stay and work long hours (unless you are a minor, there are child labor laws which prevent minors from working too many hours).

* Pay attention when you are on the set being given your "marks" and "blocking". "Marks" are the spots where you position yourself on the set during filming. "Blocking" is the exact movements you will be making so as to remain in or out of the view of the camera.

* And ALWAYS remain quiet when in a sound stage, especially when filming. "Quiet On The Set" means "QUIET ON THE SET"! The microphones can pick up even the slightest whisper. Also, when the crew is setting up for shots, they need to be focused and hear each other. It can be loud enough for themselves, let alone the chatter of extras on top of it. So do not make noise or talk loudly in between filming.

* When you hear "Rehearsal is up", "Rolling" or "Action" you must be silent unless given specific instructions by an AD (assistant director) to do otherwise.

* "Cut" means the take has finished shooting, but you then may hear:

* "Back to one" or "First position" which means go back to where you were and repeat the action you just did as the scene is being filmed again. Valuable Film and Television Extras know how to listen to what the actors are saying or doing (without being obvious) and remembers what he/she was doing at the time, so that you can repeat your action when the same scene is being shot repeatedly or from a different angle.

* NEVER look into or at the camera. Instead, look above it, to the side, or away from it; whatever is the most natural eyeline for you in your position according to what the AD has instructed you to do.

* NEVER talk badly about anyone on the set, including the actors REGARDLESS of how you may feel about someone. Use tact when speaking about others. It is extremely poor character when speaking badly or disrespectful of or to others. If you hear someone else talking badly, ignore it. If someone speaks badly to or about you, just turn your cheek and do not return the bad character behavior, as the AD may end up only hearing YOU speak badly. Take this advice to heart if you wish to go far in the entertainment industry.

* When being fed lunch or dinner, ALWAYS let the cast and crew members get their food first. This is not because Film and Television Extras are less important, as many people who work on a film set may treat you. This is because the cast and crew need to get back to work as soon as possible, where the extras usually have by far the most "down time".

* And most importantly, HAVE FUN! There are huge egos on a film set. I mean gigantic monster stuck-up HUGE egos, and I'm not talking about just the actors! Take those people with a grain of salt... look at them as kind of like a cartoon character, then you can just smile at them. After all, isn't it pretty ridiculous to have a giant ego anyways? There are many people who will brag and brag about what they have done and what they are doing. There are long periods of standing and waiting. But hey, you are working on a movie or television set! How fun is that!! And you are learning about what happens on a set, becoming more and more comfortable in front of a camera. So enjoy the experience, as it can be VERY exciting.

If you take my above advice to heart and give Film and Television Extra work your best shot, you'll enjoy it, make money at it and continue to work. And what's more fun than being with people, in the middle of the action and, later, seeing yourself on the silver screen?

"The Squeeze" begins shooting in Wilmington on October 18, 2013.
AB Media Publishing, LLC

Pathos Films and Jastrow Productions are now set to begin shooting the indie feature film "The Squeeze" on October 18th in Wilmington, NC. The six-time Primetime Emmy Award nominated casting director, Mary Jo Slater, has been auditioning actors in Los Angeles for starring and co-starring roles. Additional principal actor casting has been taking place in Wilmington by Fincannon & Associates. Now the extras casting director in Wilmington is sending out casting calls for some small speaking roles, featured background actors, and general extras. This is a SAG-AFTRA project, however both union and non-union talent is being hired. Additional filming will take place in Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

"The Squeeze" centers on a talented young golfer named Augie, who's never been outside his small Southern rural town and has the sexy girlfriend Natalie that all the guys want. One day Augie is recruited by a smooth-talking gambling addict named Riverboat and his over-the-top Southern belle wife Jessie to go to Las Vegas and win some big bucks. Augie soon finds himself embroiled in a deadly game of one upmanship between Riverboat and Jimmy Diamonds, a mobster who would rather kill than lose a wager.

Starring in "The Squeeze" is Young Artist Awards winner Jeremy Sumpter playing the lead role of Augie. Sumpter is a quickly rising star whose credits include the role of J.D. McCoy in the NBC series "Friday Night Lights," the title role in Universal Pictures 2003 feature film "Peter Pan," and the TriStar Pictures feature film "Soul Surfer". He also has three feature films in post-production, and three films in pre-production. Also starring in "The Squeeze" is Daytime Emmy Awards nominee Michael Nouri playing mobster Jimmy Diamonds, and actor Christopher McDonald has been cast as Riverboat.

URGENT casting call for Paramount Pictures feature film 'Transformers: Age of Extinction' extras southwest of Seattle, WA

Transformers: Age of Extinction casting call near Seattle

Director Michael Bay will be shooting near Seattle, WA in October, 2013.
Wikimedia Commons

"Transformers: Age of Extinction" is now filming outside of Seattle, WA and extras are needed immediately for two all day shoots on October 8th and October 9th, 2013. Details posted below.

Di Bonaventura Pictures and DreamWorks SKG in association with Hasbro are filming the Paramount Pictures science fiction action film "Transformers: Age of Extinction" (aka Transformers 4), and the casting director is seeking people available to work southwest of Seattle, WA as fully paid general extras and possible featured background actors. This is for people over 18 years of age, any ethnicity. No prior experience working as an extra or actor is required. The shooting dates are October 8th and October 9th, 2013.

As humanity picks up the pieces, following the conclusion of 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon,' Autobots and Decepticons have all but vanished from the face of the planet. However, a group of powerful, ingenious businessman and scientists attempt to learn from past Transformer incursions and push the boundaries of technology beyond what they can control – all while an ancient, powerful Transformer menace sets Earth in his crosshairs. The epic adventure and battle between good and evil, freedom and enslavement ensues.

Directors Guild of America DGA Award winner Michael Bay has returned to direct his fourth installment of the film series from a screenplay written by Ehren Kruger, who also wrote "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" and "Transformers: Dark of the Moon". Bay has said that this will be his final installment in the franchise, however Hasbro has stated that they would like to continue making additional Transformers films with or without Michael Bay. Writer Ehren Kruger's other credits include "Arlington Road," "Scream 3 & 4," "The Ring," "The Skeleton Key," and "The Brothers Grimm".

Three-time Academy Award winner Steven Spielberg is again executive producing, along with Mark Vahradian for Di Bonaventura Pictures, and Brian Goldner for Hasbro. Producers are Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Don Murphy, Tom DeSanto, and Academy Award nominee Ian Bryce. Spielberg and Bryce have collaborated on other films including "Saving Private Ryan," for which they both won Golden Globe Awards. Bryce also worked as assistant director on the Spielberg directed film "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom", and production manager on Spielberg's "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade". More recently Bryce and Michael Bay both produced the Paramount Pictures feature film "Pain & Gain", on which Bay also directed.

Casting full time stand-in for Reese Witherspoon for Fox Searchlight Pictures feature film 'Wild'

Reese Witherspoon stand in open casting call

Reese Witherspoon plays the role of Cheryl Strayed in the feature film 'Wild'.
Wikimedia Commons

River Road Entertainment and Pacific Standard are currently in pre-production on the Fox Searchlight Pictures true-story drama feature film "Wild" to be filmed in the Portland, Oregon area beginning October 5, 2013. The production has sent out an open casting call notice seeking a full time stand-in and photo-double for Academy Award winning actress Reese Witherspoon, who is starring in the lead role. Feature film stand-ins work directly under the director of photography, and also work closely with the star for which the stand-in is hired. The stand-in enters the set in between actual takes, and is used in place of the starring actor for purposes of lighting, camera blocking, etc. Stand-ins are members of the "second team". Extras are also being cast.

"Wild" is based on the memoir by Cheryl Strayed. At twenty-two, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother's death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life. With no experience or training, driven only by blind will, she would hike more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State - and she would do it alone. Told with suspense and style, sparkling with warmth and humor, "Wild" powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddened, strengthened, and ultimately healed her.

Award winning Canadian filmmaker Jean-Marc Vallée will direct "Wild" from as adapted screenplay written by Academy Award nominee Nick Hornby. Vallée made his directorial debut with "Liste noire", which was nominated for nine Genie Awards, including nods for Vallée's direction and editing. His fourth feature film "C.R.A.Z.Y." received further critical acclaim and was a financial success. It dominated both the Genie and Jutra Awards, winning awards for Best Film and Best Director at both. Vallée's next film "The Young Victoria" received three Academy Award nominations, while his sixth film, "Café de Flore", was the most nominated film at the 32nd Genie Awards. Vallée recently completed directing "Dallas Buyers Club" starring Jared Leto, Matthew McConaughey, and Jennifer Garner.

In addition to starring in "Wild", Reese Witherspoon is also producing under the banner of her production company Pacific Standard, along with her partner Bruna Papandrea. The duo joined forces in March, 2012 to launch the new production banner and fold a number of projects into the partnership from their pre-existing companies Type A Films and Make Movies. Academy Award nominee Bill Pohlad will also produce "Wild" for River Road Entertainment. Nathan Ross and writer Nick Hornby will executive produce. Claudia Lewis and David Greenbaum will oversee production for Fox Searchlight Pictures.

AB Media Publishing, LLC

Happy Madison Productions in association with Gulfstream Pictures and Kiki Tree Productions are now filming the romantic comedy feature film "Blended", and the extras casting director has sent out a casting call for people who are interested in working as fully paid background performers. The production is in need of all ages and types. Shooting is taking place through August 16, 2013 in the Lake Lanier/Buford area northeast of Atlanta, GA.
