Open casting call for Netflix series 'House of Cards' in Baltimore-Washington Metro Area

House of Cards Bel Air Open Casting Call

Netflix is now a major player in original content with this $100 million project.
AB Media Publishing, LLC

The Netflix political drama "House of Cards" is in production in the Harford County, Maryland area. The casting directors are holding an open casting call for extras in addition to recurring and featured roles. "House of Cards" is based on the BBC miniseries of the same name. That original BBC version was based on a novel from British author Michael Dobbs. Netflix has ordered 26 episodes to air over two seasons. This will be the last open casting call for the season one episodes.

Starring in "House of Cards" is two-time Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey as Rep. Frank Underwood, a House of Representatives Majority Whip who, after not being appointed Secretary of State, derives a plan to bring down the new president and take over the Oval Office. Golden Globe Award nominee Robin Wright plays Frank's wife Claire Underwood; Kate Mara is playing Zoe Barnes, a reporter for a Washington paper who conspires with Underwood to land a killer scoop; Michael Gill plays U.S. President Garrett Walker; two-time Tony nominee Jayne Atkinson is Sen. Catherine Durant; Corey Stoll landed the role of womanizing Rep. Patrick Russo, and Kristen Connolly plays Russo's Executive Assistant Christina Malone with whom he has a torrid affair.

The production companies behind "House of Cards" are Media Rights Capital and Kevin Spacey's Trigger Street Productions. Media Rights Capital is a top independent film and television studio that is backed by Goldman Sachs, AT&T and WPP Group PLC. The company specializes in the creation of premium entertainment content. Trigger Street Productions is a production company founded by Spacey and his producing partner Dana Brunetti. Netflix, which has over 20 million subscribers, outbid such major players as HBO and AMC for the rights to distribute "House of Cards" exclusively. “House of Cards” is unique, as it is the first exclusive TV series to originate on Netflix.

Academy Award nominee Beau Willimon is the head writer and one of the executive producers of "House of Cards". Two-time Academy Award winner David Fincher is also executive producing, and is directing some of the shows episodes. Fincher has directed such films as "The Game," "Panic Room," "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," "The Social Network," and "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". The other executive producers are Academy Award winner Eric Roth, Trigger Street's Kevin Spacey and Dana Brunetti, Joshua Donen, and John Melfi.

But when Francis is passed over for a promised cabinet post by the new President Elect, he sets out to redress the wrong - ingeniously, covertly, and nefariously.
